Methane to Olefin Catalysts Breakthrough in R&D

Sinochem New Network News Recently, the methanol and olefin catalyst development and scale-up research projects developed by Shanghai Yankuang Energy Science and Technology R&D Co., Ltd. and the State Key Laboratory of Coal Liquefaction and Coal Chemical Industry passed technical appraisal in Beijing. The project can provide reliable catalysts and production technologies for large-scale methanol-to-olefin plants, which is of great significance for improving China's coal-to-olefin technology.

The development and scale-up of methanol-to-olefin catalysts is an important part of the Yanzhou Mining Group's methanol-to-olefins technology. The project has researched and developed a catalyst for the conversion of methanol to olefins using a single template metal modified molecular sieve. This catalyst has complete methanol conversion, long active time, and high ethylene and propylene selectivity. The project team also developed a three-template molecular sieve catalyst for the production of olefins from methanol, which has a longer reaction time when the methanol conversion is complete and the ethylene and propylene reaction selectivity is equivalent.

In addition, the project team also conducted hot-mold experimental study on the catalysts produced in the pilot test, obtained the best reaction conditions, and provided a reliable design basis for the development of methanol-to-olefin equipment.
