Rolling bearings are precision components that require careful handling during installation and removal. Before cleaning or disassembling, it's essential to remove the bearing from the equipment. Bearings sealed with anti-rust oil can be cleaned using gasoline or kerosene. For those coated with thick grease or rust-preventive oil, light mineral oil such as 10# oil or transformer oil should be used first. These oils can be heated to melt the grease and then cooled before cleaning with gasoline or kerosene. Bearings with dust covers or seals on both sides usually come pre-lubricated, so they don’t need to be removed unless necessary. Similarly, bearings coated with a thin layer of rust-proof grease can remain in place without requiring removal. During the removal process, it's crucial to prevent foreign particles from entering the bearing. Small abrasive particles can cause excessive wear between the rolling elements and the raceway, leading to increased noise and vibration. Proper care should always be taken to maintain the integrity of the bearing. There are two main methods for installing and removing bearings: mechanical press-fit and thermal expansion/contraction. In the press-fit method, either the inner diameter of the bearing is expanded by heating, or the outer diameter is contracted by cooling. When using a press, the force must be applied directly to the bearing seat, not through the rolling elements. Applying pressure through the balls or rollers can damage the raceway and lead to premature failure. If thermal methods are used, temperature control is critical. Heating should not exceed 100°C, and cooling should not go below -50°C, as extreme temperatures can affect the material properties of the bearing and reduce its lifespan. Improper installation or removal is one of the leading causes of early bearing failure. It’s important to consider the ease of assembly and disassembly when designing the bearing support system. For large bearings used in heavy machinery, special tools and equipment may be required. High-pressure oil disassembly systems, for example, need proper oil lines, pumps, and pressure controls to function effectively. In summary, correct procedures for bearing removal and disassembly are vital to ensure the longevity and performance of the bearing. Always follow manufacturer guidelines and use appropriate tools and techniques to avoid damage and maintain optimal operation.
