Schneider Electric will expand its production in South Africa, including inverters, square arrays and monitoring systems. The company will exceed the minimum local production requirement of 45% set for the first round of the Renewable Energy Independent Producer Purchase Program (REIPPPP). Schneider is expected to manufacture up to 60% of the equipment locally for the South African project.
The company has already begun to supply components for its first 20MW PV project in South Africa.
In addition to expanding its solar manufacturing base in South Africa, the company also changed its equipment to meet local environmental conditions for specific local requirements.
The Ministry of Energy's REIPPPP will appoint 2GW of solar PV projects with an estimated value of $2.9 billion.
The tender for the third round of REIPPPP must be completed by August 19th and the preferred bidder will be announced on October 29.
