KFC sold the disinfectant to the customer saying that the employee had made a mistake

Around 1:00 pm the day before yesterday, a shocking incident occurred at a KFC store in Beijing. A customer purchased a Coca-Cola and discovered that the drink contained disinfectant instead of the beverage. The customer immediately raised the issue with the staff, who later admitted that an employee had mistakenly used disinfectant water—intended for cleaning equipment—as a drink. A social media user named "Dashuai Tam 3023470095" shared the story on Weibo, stating that around 1:00 pm, a group of high school students visited the KFC branch at Juntai Department Store. One student bought a glass of Coke and found it to be filled with disinfectant. The post included seven photos showing the situation, including a man pointing at a waiter while speaking with a police officer. According to Mr. Wang, a customer present at the time, several students, a police officer, and a restaurant employee were seen discussing the matter. Later, civilian police entered the staff area, but no conclusive results were found. The police reportedly suspended the store’s operations and publicly stated that the KFC had sold disinfectant to customers and could not locate the manager or the person responsible. Several customers then returned their drinks. On the following day, around 10:00 am, the KFC at Xidan Juntai Department Store was operating normally. A KFC representative clarified that the store had not been officially closed by the police. The staff apologized for the mistake, acknowledging that an employee had failed to follow proper procedures and accidentally served disinfectant as a drink. They also confirmed they were cooperating with affected customers, offering medical check-ups and covering all related costs. Additionally, the company promised to conduct a thorough internal review to prevent such incidents from happening again. Xicheng Police confirmed they arrived at the scene to assist with the situation. However, due to food safety concerns, they advised the parties involved to report the issue to the Food and Drug Administration. Representatives from the Xicheng District Food and Drug Administration stated that they had not yet received any formal complaints regarding the KFC location. This incident has sparked concern among customers and raised questions about hygiene standards in fast-food chains. As the investigation continues, many are hoping for transparency and accountability from KFC.
