New carbon structure material hardness exceeds diamond and graphene

Whatever the graphene and diamonds go to one side, a firmer and harder superstructure of carbon structure has been born and is stronger and stronger than any currently known material.

Researchers at Rice University in Houston, USA, have found through computational studies that the properties of a new carbon-structured material are harder than any known material. This carbon material is called Carbyne. Its carbon atom chain is rather special, and it is composed of triple bond atoms and single bond atoms or double bond atoms. Formally because of its special structure, it can be harder than graphene and diamonds.

Carbyne itself is a hidden and elusive substance. Astronauts once detected this substance in space, but on Earth, scientists can only rely on artificial synthesis to extend the atom chain to 44 atoms. Until now, this substance is still considered too active to be used in studies that are not reliable enough.

However, the researchers also stated that although the Carbyne property is very active, but under a certain structure, the substance can be stable in the laboratory for several days.
