Once the liquid enters the sealed chamber, it is transported axially along the screws until it reaches the discharge side. There, the volume of the engagement space decreases, forcing the liquid out under pressure.
The working principle of stainless steel pumps is similar to that of gear pumps, but instead of gears, they use screws to create the pumping action. This design results in a smoother flow with minimal pulsation, reduced noise and vibration, and good self-priming capabilities. However, the manufacturing of screws is more complex compared to gears.
These pumps come in two main configurations: single-suction and double-suction. However, only single-screw pumps have a single suction port. To ensure safe operation, especially in cases where the outlet becomes blocked and pressure rises beyond acceptable limits, a safety valve is typically installed. Single-screw pumps may not always require a safety valve, depending on their design and application.
