FlashBatteries itself contains chemically synthesized peptide molecules called nanodots. These molecules form the basis of multifunctional electrodes, which can achieve supercapacitor-style fast charging and slow discharge similar to lithium-ion batteries. The chemical compounds used are not flammable and have a higher combustion temperature than graphite, which reduces the battery's resistance. In an announcement this week, StoreDot stated that a scaled-down version of the system has been incorporated into an autonomously operated drone charging station for drones using the company's batteries.
