Japanese enterprises improve the recycling rate of rare metals and reduce dependence on China

"Nihon Keizai Shimbun" reported that superhard tools are indispensable tools for manufacturing automobiles and IT products. The main raw materials are rare metals such as tungsten and cobalt, and China accounts for about 80% of global production. As the market predicts that China will adopt export restrictions, the price increase is obvious. In order to maintain international competitiveness and reduce dependence on China, Japanese super-hard tool manufacturers are promoting the recycling of rare metals. Sumitomo Electric's super-hard tools account for the first place in the domestic market. In order to stabilize the supply of rare metal materials, it plans to invest 2.2 billion yen to build a new factory in Hyogo Prefecture, recycling used superhard tools, and powdering them by heat treatment. The raw materials are reused in the production of ultra-hard tools of the company, and the monthly processing capacity is 5 tons. Together with the already-run Toyama Plant, Sumitomo Electric's recycling capacity will reach the scale of its production of super-hard tools. Mitsubishi Tools has started its recycling business through its subsidiary, Japan's new metals, and has increased the production of tungsten's primary processing materials, and has begun to build a self-supply system for raw materials. At present, the domestic rare metal recycling rate is only 25%, far lower than the US 50% and Europe 40%. The actions of major companies such as Sumitomo Electric will drive the recycling industry throughout the industry.
