Shanghai Customs Customs District's furniture exports maintained growth in the first three quarters

According to Shanghai Customs statistics, in the first three quarters of this year, Shanghai Customs and Excise Department exported furniture and parts of 6.46 billion US dollars, an increase of 9.8% over the same period last year. Exports continued to grow in double digits for two consecutive months in July, and the export growth rate rebounded in September. In March of this year, Shanghai Customs and Excise Department's furniture exports reached a record high of 830 million US dollars in a single month. Since July, the value of furniture exports in the customs area has fallen below 700 million US dollars. In September, the year-on-year growth rate of furniture exports in the customs area rebounded. The export volume in the month was 700 million US dollars, up 14.3% year-on-year and 7.1% quarter-on-quarter. From the perspective of major export markets, the growth rate of exports to the US and Europe is relatively slow, and the growth rate of exports to Japan is higher than the overall. In the first three quarters of this year, Shanghai Customs and Excise Department exported 680 million US dollars of furniture to Japan, a significant increase of 24.4%, 14.5 percentage points higher than the overall growth rate of furniture exports in the customs area. For the United States and the European Union, respectively, exports of 2.64 billion US dollars and 1.22 billion US dollars of furniture, lower than the overall growth rate of furniture exports in the customs. It is worth mentioning that the export of foreign-invested enterprises has increased by more than 50%, while the export of state-owned enterprises has declined against the trend. In the first three quarters of this year, foreign-invested enterprises exported 3.5 billion US dollars of furniture through the Shanghai Customs Customs District, an increase of 6.9%, accounting for 55.5% of the total export value of furniture products in the customs area in the same period. In the same period, private enterprises exported 2.32 billion US dollars, an increase of 18.6%; state-owned enterprises only exported 440 million US dollars, down 5.4% against the trend. It is interesting to note that due to the sluggish external demand and rising costs, the operating pressure of furniture export enterprises has been increasing, and the technical barriers to trade in Europe and the United States have been escalating, further increasing the difficulty of exporting domestic furniture. In addition, domestic furniture design is low in originality, lack of independent brands and independent marketing network, resulting in domestic brands not occupying an advantage in the international market competition, and the core competitiveness of furniture exports needs to be continuously improved.
