Sponge iron direct reduction method produces iron. Direct reduction method refers to the iron production process of reducing iron ore to sponge iron below the melting temperature. The product is direct reduced iron (DRI), also called sponge iron.
The product is not melted, and still maintains the shape of the ore. It is named after a microscope under the microscope to form a large number of pores due to reduction of oxygen. Sponge iron is characterized by low carbon content (<1%) and preserves gangue in the ore. These characteristics make it unsuitable for large-scale use in converter steelmaking, and are only suitable for replacing scrap steel as a raw material for electric steelmaking.
Sponge iron smelting reduction method produces iron. The smelting reduction method refers to a method of reducing iron ore in a molten state at a high temperature without using a blast furnace, and the product thereof is liquid molten iron having a composition similar to that of blast furnace molten iron. The purpose of developing the smelting reduction method is to replace or supplement the blast furnace ironmaking.
