Volvo Announces the Development of Electric Roads

Volvo has taken a major step forward in sustainable transportation by announcing its plan to develop electric roads capable of charging buses while they are in motion. This initiative will be carried out in collaboration with the Swedish Transport Authority, aiming to create more eco-friendly and efficient transport solutions. The first pilot electric roads are set to be constructed in Gothenburg for testing purposes.

Currently, Volvo is experimenting with electric rails embedded in roads to power long-haul trucks. In addition, the company has started producing environmentally friendly electric buses in Gothenburg. By integrating these two technologies, vehicles can receive wireless charging as they drive, eliminating the need to stop at charging stations. This system works through electromagnetic induction, similar to the technology already in use by electric buses in South Korea.

To ensure the practical implementation of this innovation, Volvo will also partner with the Swedish Transport Authority to establish industry standards for electric road construction and charging systems.
