While high elongation properties may seem beneficial, they are not necessarily advantageous in this specific system. Additionally, UV resistance is generally not required for such applications.
There are numerous types of architectural ceramic veneer systems that require careful consideration for waterproofing. These systems often involve complex geometries, along with various plumbing fixtures, drainage pipes, and floor drains that penetrate the waterproofing layer. When selecting a suitable waterproof coating, it’s essential to review the detailed structural design and consult the manufacturer's technical specifications. Beyond evaluating the physical and mechanical properties of the coating itself, it’s also important to take into account the unique conditions of each project. For example, in areas like swimming pools that are continuously submerged, the waterproof coating must be resistant to long-term moisture. If the coating swells over time, it could lead to localized failures under pressure or external forces, compromising the entire waterproofing system.
The total thickness of the waterproof coating must meet the design specifications and should always be guided by the manufacturer’s technical guidelines. In cases where the base layer experiences significant deformation, frequent vibration, or where the leveling layer is prone to cracking, it is advisable to reinforce the waterproof coating with materials like polyester mesh or alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh. These reinforcements help maintain the integrity of the waterproofing layer under challenging conditions. By following these best practices, the durability and performance of the waterproofing system can be significantly improved, ensuring long-term protection against moisture damage.
