Foreign media reported that on January 17, local time, power management company Eaton announced that its eMobility business has developed compact power-intensive automotive inverters to increase the cruising range of electric vehicles. The inverter draws power from the battery and controls how power is applied to the motor to manage vehicle power and torque. In the first quarter of 2019, the inverter will be tested by a global automotive manufacturer.
The eMobility division leveraged Eaton’s expertise in high-voltage power management to develop a vehicle inverter with a power density of 35 kW/L and an operating efficiency of 98%. The inverter's high power density, compact and lightweight design minimizes the footprint of the vehicle and maximizes the cruising range of the vehicle.
Eaton expects the share of electric vehicles in the global passenger vehicle market to increase to 38% by 2030, and its market share is mainly distributed in pure electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles and light-mix electric vehicles. The inverters developed by Eaton can be used in various types of electric vehicles, as well as other fuel-replacement vehicles such as hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
