In the new study, scientists envision using the same chemicals on silk to see if they have better ability to kill spores. The experimental results show that silk treated for only 1 hour can kill all E. coli deposited on it within 10 minutes, and it has the same effect on spores similar to anthrax.

Scientists said that given the potential for bactericidal and sporicidal capacity of chloride silk fibres, it is expected to have a wide range of uses, including the purification of water and the release of toxic substances, and people can use it to make temporary curtains and other protective clothing in the event of an anthrax terrorist attack.
