According to an industry official at the exhibition, as variable frequency technology matures and coal mine equipment becomes more advanced, the use of frequency converters in coal production is on the rise. The application of such technology in underground electrical equipment helps improve the automation and modernization of coal mines, ultimately enhancing the overall economic performance of enterprises.
A representative from a Shenzhen-based inverter company emphasized that the mining market represents a major opportunity for high-voltage inverters. While China’s mining system has developed over time, its resource utilization efficiency still leaves room for improvement, creating a strong demand for technological upgrades and equipment modernization.
Safety remains the top priority in the mining industry, and energy-saving measures are integrated into the broader safety framework. Fan Kang, Sales Director of Hekang Variable Frequency Mining Division, explained that using frequency converters in equipment like elevators and conveyor belts allows for soft starts, which extends equipment lifespan and improves efficiency while reducing energy consumption—achieving two goals at once.
Reports indicate that by implementing frequency converters, coal mine fans and other machinery can save over 30% in energy usage, demonstrating the significant impact of this technology on operational costs.
Despite a current downturn in the coal market, which has affected investment and production growth, the long-term outlook for the inverter industry remains positive. Industry experts believe that coal mining equipment will drive rapid development in the inverter market. A coal company representative noted that although the pressure of inventory has reduced enthusiasm for energy-saving reforms, the adoption of frequency conversion technology is essential for future industry growth, particularly in mining and transportation sectors.
Chen Yu, Deputy General Manager of Hekang Inverter Technology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd., pointed out that while frequency converters were initially used mainly in major mines, most installations are still limited to main equipment. This suggests a large market gap that remains untapped. Meanwhile, industry experts believe that domestic inverter products offer superior cost-performance and can compete with imported high-end alternatives, especially as coal companies face increasing cost pressures.
The medium- and low-voltage inverter market holds great potential for replacing imports. Although domestic manufacturers started later in the high-voltage inverter field, they have made significant progress and are now expanding into low-voltage applications. As technology advances and energy-saving awareness grows, Chinese inverter companies are well-positioned to reclaim market share in the low-voltage segment.
In the past, many companies produced explosion-proof inverters, but few had established strong brands. Ye Quanhai, General Manager of Wuhan Hekang Explosion-proof Electric Co., Ltd., noted that true expertise in this area involves not just hardware, but also software integration and testing capabilities. With the involvement of leading domestic firms, the explosion-proof inverter market is expected to become more standardized.
An industry researcher highlighted that while many companies claim to be in the inverter business, few truly focus on core frequency converter technology.
