Domestic Leading Enterprises Intervene in the Renovation of the Low-Voltage Inverter Market

China is one of the world's largest countries in terms of coal production, and it also has a high electricity consumption per ton of coal. Recently, at the 15th China International Coal Mining Technology Exchange and Equipment Exhibition, mining frequency converters have gained popularity among coal companies due to their impressive operational performance and economic benefits achieved through system upgrades. Leading domestic manufacturers of high-voltage inverters are now expanding into the low-voltage and explosion-proof inverter markets, which is expected to create more competition and uncertainty in the mid-to-low voltage frequency conversion market. These systems not only meet process requirements but also contribute significantly to energy savings. At the exhibition, an industry official emphasized that as variable frequency technology becomes more mature and coal mine equipment improves, more frequency converters are being used in coal mining operations. This shift helps enhance the modernization and automation of coal mining equipment, ultimately improving enterprise efficiency. A representative from a Shenzhen-based inverter company noted that the mining sector is a key area for high-voltage inverters. While China’s mining system has developed over the years, its resource utilization efficiency is still suboptimal, leaving significant room for technological upgrades and equipment improvements. Safety remains the top priority in the mining industry, and energy saving is an integral part of this safety framework, achieved alongside overall system security. Fan Kang, Sales Director of Hekang Variable Frequency Mining Division, explained that using frequency converters in equipment like elevators and belt conveyors meets process needs by enabling soft starts, extending equipment lifespan, and reducing energy consumption. According to reports, the use of frequency converters in coal mine fans and other equipment can lead to energy savings of over 30%. While the current downturn in the coal market has temporarily impacted the inverter industry, experts believe that in the long term, coal mining equipment will drive rapid growth in the inverter market. A coal company representative at the exhibition mentioned that while inventory pressures have slowed investment and production growth, the adoption of frequency conversion technology is essential for future industry development. Chen Yu, Deputy General Manager of Hekang Inverter Technology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd., highlighted that frequency converters were initially developed for motor control, but their energy-saving potential has been widely recognized. Currently, only a few major mines have fully implemented frequency conversion, with most installing inverters on main equipment. This indicates a large untapped market potential. An industry expert pointed out that mine hoisting systems often rely on frequency converters, making them less affected by economic fluctuations or customer payment capabilities. Domestic leading brands offer superior cost-performance and can replace some foreign high-end products. As coal companies face increasing cost pressures, the demand for domestic solutions is likely to rise. In the low-voltage inverter market, many domestic brands still hold a small share. However, domestic manufacturers have made significant progress in high-voltage inverter applications, showing strong technical capabilities. With the growing awareness of energy efficiency, domestic manufacturers are well-positioned to reclaim market share. Previously, many companies produced explosion-proof inverters, but few had established strong brand presence. According to Ye Quanhai, General Manager of Wuhan Hekang Explosion-proof Electric Co., Ltd., producing such devices requires not just hardware but also software strength and integration capabilities. With the involvement of leading domestic firms, the market is expected to become more standardized. Industry researchers note that although there are many branded inverter companies, few focus exclusively on inverters. Some have expanded into robotics, which may dilute the overall quality of the industry. To move forward, the domestic inverter industry must concentrate on developing high-quality frequency converter products rather than blindly expanding their industrial chains.
