China's fiberboard industry began in the 1970s, saw significant growth in the 1980s, and experienced rapid expansion in the 1990s. Since the early 2000s, production has surged dramatically. By 2005, annual output surpassed 20 million cubic meters for the first time, reaching 49.54 million cubic meters by 2011. In terms of regional output, Henan Province led with 6.98 million cubic meters in 2011—a 44.87% increase from 2010—accounting for 14.09% of the national total. Guangxi, Jiangsu, and Shandong followed, contributing 12.84%, 9.76%, and 8.56% respectively. From January to July 2012, China’s fiberboard production capacity reached 29,805,100.39 square meters, reflecting an 11.3% year-on-year increase.
With China's economic growth and rising urbanization rates, fiberboard products that offer stable quality, high environmental standards, and versatile applications—including fire-resistant features—are well-positioned for strong market demand. These characteristics make them a preferred choice across various industries, including construction, furniture, and interior design.
Looking ahead, the continued development of China's real estate, furniture, and packaging sectors, along with the establishment of fast-growing timber plantations as raw material sources, will further boost fiberboard demand and exports. As a result, the share of fiberboard in the overall wood panel market is expected to rise significantly. This trend reflects not only domestic growth but also the increasing global recognition of China’s fiberboard industry.
