Quality Supervision Bureau carries out inspection on environmental protection certification to ensure business integrity

In recent weeks, the Deyang City Quality Supervision Bureau in Sichuan Province carried out a special law enforcement inspection targeting environmental protection certifications in the local furniture market. The initiative aimed to ensure that merchants operate honestly and transparently, while safeguarding the rights and interests of consumers. During the inspection, more than 40 furniture brands from 10 different dealers were checked against national mandatory standards outlined in the "Furniture Instructions." Inspectors focused on whether the products had proper labels, factory certification documents, quality inspection reports, and detailed instructions about the materials used, including information on toxic or radioactive substances in the paint. They also verified if furniture with environmental certifications had the correct marks displayed as required. A total of over 60 batches of furniture items, including sofas, dining tables and chairs, beds, wardrobes, shoe cabinets, and coffee tables, were examined. The results revealed that only 36.2% of the products on sale had received various environmental certifications. Some issues identified included incomplete product specifications and production dates in the manuals, lack of information on harmful substance limits, and some dealers failing to properly verify the validity of their certification documents. Meanwhile, the Jingxing Mine Branch of the Shijiazhuang Quality Supervision Bureau in Hebei Province conducted an inspection of furniture sold by five local distributors. This operation focused on verifying the environmental certification status of over 100 types of furniture, such as beds, tables, chairs, TV cabinets, fabric sofas, stand cabinets, and shoe cabinets. The findings showed that larger furniture retailers generally carried well-known brands with established manufacturers who often held green environmental certifications, such as Chengdu Quanyou Furniture Co., Ltd. In contrast, smaller retailers offered a wide range of unbranded or poorly labeled furniture, mostly sourced from individual workshops without any official green certification. To address these concerns, inspectors actively educated both retailers and consumers on how to recognize certified products, understand certification laws, and identify genuine environmental labels. They urged all furniture sellers to obtain proper certification for their products moving forward. This ongoing effort highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in the furniture industry, ensuring that consumers can make informed choices and feel confident in the safety and quality of the products they purchase.
