In 2013, China's hardware tool exports continued to grow steadily. The metal products industry maintained a strong performance in foreign trade, primarily through general trade. From January to March 2013, the total volume of imports and exports under general trade rose by 12.52%, making up 73.34% of the entire industry’s trade. Specifically, general trade exports increased by 15.25% year-on-year, though this was a slight decline of 3.16 percentage points compared to the same period in 2012. Meanwhile, general trade imports grew by 2.39%, but this marked a decrease of 6.35 percentage points from the previous year.

Since 2008, various government initiatives aimed at boosting domestic demand, accelerating rural development, and implementing large-scale infrastructure projects such as post-earthquake reconstruction have significantly expanded the market for construction hardware. These efforts have led to an upgrade in the quality and variety of Chinese architectural hardware products. As a result, many leading companies in the architectural hardware sector began showcasing their products on the global stage, demonstrating stronger international competitiveness.
This shift is not only attributed to the growing demand in the domestic market but also reflects a significant transformation in consumer behavior and purchasing power among Chinese consumers. More people are now willing to invest in high-quality hardware tools and products, which has encouraged manufacturers to innovate and improve their brand image.
From January to March 2013, the metal products sub-industries were ranked based on total accumulated imports and exports. These included Building Hardware, Tools Hardware, Daily Use Hardware, Locks, Cooking Cookware & Other Gas Appliances, Shower Enclosures, Stainless Steel Kitchen Equipment, Zippers, and Range Hoods. Among them, the building hardware, tools hardware, and daily hardware sectors accounted for 42.99%, 17.51%, and 12.62% of the total industry imports and exports, respectively. While these figures showed a slight decline compared to the same period last year, the construction hardware and tool hardware industries experienced modest growth.
