Hot and cold water faucet maintenance specific steps full introduction

Leaky faucets are a common issue in many households, especially when it comes to hot and cold water fixtures. Not only is it annoying, but it can also lead to wasted water and higher utility bills. Have you ever faced a leaky faucet at home? If so, you might have called a plumber to fix it. While professional help is reliable, it often takes time and money. The good news is that with the right tools and knowledge, you can fix it yourself. Jiuzheng Building Materials Network is here to guide you through a simple and effective way to stop those leaks.

For repairing a hot and cold water faucet, you’ll need a few basic tools: a medium-sized flat-head screwdriver and an adjustable wrench with an opening between 30-50 mm.

Here’s how to fix a leaking hot water faucet:

  1. If your faucet is controlled by a main shut-off valve, turn it off first. If the hot and cold water lines are separate, close the corresponding Valves for each line.
  2. Use the flat-head screwdriver to remove the “01 Hot and Cold Standard” (the plug covering the handle fixing screw hole).
  3. Insert the screwdriver into the handle’s fixing screw hole (marked with “hot” and “cold”) and turn it counterclockwise (left-handed) about three times.
  4. Hold the faucet handle with your left hand and pull it upward. Use the non-metallic end of the screwdriver to gently pry off the “02 Water Outlet Handle.”
  5. Turn the “03 End Cap” counterclockwise to remove it from the main body of the faucet.
  6. Place the adjustable wrench on the hexagonal part of the “04 Core Tightening Hex Sleeve.” Adjust the wrench size and turn it counterclockwise to remove the ceramic valve core. If it's in good condition, tighten it back clockwise. If it's damaged, replace it with a new one.
  7. Reinstall the “03 End Cover,” “02 Water Outlet Handle,” and “01 Hot and Cold Standard.” Remember, red represents the hot side, and blue represents the cold side.

Jiuzheng Building Materials Network reminds you: if your faucet has reduced water flow, it could be due to sand or debris stuck in the sealing disk. In such cases, it’s best to consult a professional. However, if the rubber washer is worn out, it should definitely be replaced. Also, remember that the hot water section of the faucet is more prone to wear due to temperature changes. It’s recommended to replace both the hot and cold washers at the same time to ensure long-term performance and prevent future leaks.
