Market research helmets failed

The Provincial Bureau of Quality Supervision recently released the results of a quality inspection and spot check on five product categories, including **hard hats** and **insulating glass**. Among these, the pass rate for **safety helmets** was 80%, while that for **hollow glass** stood at 76%. These findings highlight ongoing concerns about product safety and quality in the market. According to the report, the qualified rate for **safety helmets** is 80%, but many of these products are already on the market. Several key quality issues were identified during the inspections. One major problem is that some helmets failed the weight test—lighter helmets are generally better for reducing neck fatigue during long-term use. However, 7 out of 15 sampled batches exceeded the standard weight, making up 46.67% of the total. Additionally, the cap shell failed in some cases, which could lead to the helmet breaking on its own and causing injury. The impact resistance absorption performance also did not meet standards, which is critical for ensuring the helmet functions properly in extreme weather conditions. A weak jaw strap can cause the helmet to slip off, increasing the risk of accidents, while poor lateral rigidity may fail to protect workers from external pressure. In addition to **safety helmets**, the Quality Supervision Department conducted random checks on 50 batches of **insulating glass** across six regions, including Taiyuan, Datong, Quzhou, Yangquan, and Changzhi. The pass rate was 76%, with problems mainly found in size deviation, skin thickness, and dew point. Using such substandard products can reduce the transparency and energy-saving performance of the glass. The department also tested **cement**, **ductile iron pipes**, and **mine-use flame-retardant cables**, all of which had a 100% pass rate, indicating stable product quality. In response to these findings, the Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau has urged local departments to handle post-check follow-ups effectively. Companies failing to meet quality standards will be required to improve their products through rectification, administrative penalties, or other measures. The bureau also emphasized continued efforts to combat illegal production and sales of fake or substandard goods. Notably, the **Sacred Brand** helmets produced by Longkou City Anda Rubber & Plastic Products Factory, used by Shanxi Pingding Guzhou Weidong Coal Industry Co., Ltd., failed in impact resistance, squatting strength, and lateral rigidity tests. Similarly, the **Tiangu Brand** 4+9+4mm 510x360mm hollow glass from Taiyuan Tianyi Glass Store did not meet specifications in dimensions, skin thickness, and dew point, affecting its transparency and insulation properties.
