In 2012, the formula for calculating the water pressure resistance of the latest seamless steel pipes was developed, focusing on their yield strength (σ 0.2). For many metals, the yield point is often indistinct and challenging to measure. As such, to determine the yield properties of these materials, it's standard practice to consider the stress at which a permanent deformation equivalent to 0.2% of the original length occurs. This is referred to as the conditional yield strength or simply the yield strength (σ 0.2).
Tensile strength (σ b), on the other hand, is the maximum stress a material can endure during the stretching process until it breaks. It indicates the steel's capacity to avoid fracturing. Compressive strength and bending strength are related concepts that apply similar principles under different types of stress. If we denote Pb as the maximum tensile force before the material fractures and Fo as the cross-sectional area of the specimen, the tensile strength is calculated as σ b = Pb/Fo (in MPa).
When determining the pressure-bearing capability of a seamless steel pipe, the wall thickness plays a critical role. Using the wall thickness calculation method, you can estimate the withstand pressure based on the formula: (pressure × outer diameter × coefficient) / (2 × tensile strength of the steel pipe). The wall thickness can also be calculated using the outer diameter and the required pressure-bearing capacity: Wall thickness = (pressure × outer diameter × coefficient) / (2 × tensile strength of the steel pipe). For seamless steel pipes, the pressure coefficients vary depending on the pressure range: for pressures less than 7 Mpa, the coefficient S = 8; for pressures between 7 and 17.5 Mpa, S = 6; and for pressures greater than 17.5 Mpa, S = 4.
The inner diameter of the steel pipe is defined by the outer diameter of the sizing machine drill bit. After the pipe is sized, it moves into the cooling tower where water spray cools it down. Once cooled, the steel tube is straightened and conveyed via a belt to a metal flaw detector or hydraulic pressure tester for internal inspection. Any internal defects such as cracks or bubbles are identified during this process. Following the quality inspection, each steel pipe undergoes a rigorous manual selection process. Finally, numbers, specifications, and production lot numbers are painted onto the pipes for identification and traceability.
This comprehensive approach ensures that only high-quality seamless steel pipes meet the stringent standards required for various industrial applications. Every step in the manufacturing and testing process is meticulously executed to guarantee reliability and performance under demanding conditions.
