Summary During the Boao Forum for Asia, Trina Solar Chairman Gao Jifan and Wu Guodi, Chairman of China International Energy, attended the "Boao Three-Day Forum" and participated in discussions on key topics related to the development of new energy fields such as photovoltaics and Suntech. The conversation focused on industry challenges, sustainable growth, and future trends in renewable energy.
During the Boao Forum for Asia, Gao Jifan, CEO of Trina Solar, and Wu Guodi, CEO of China International Energy, took part in the “Boao Three-Day Forum†and engaged in discussions on critical issues surrounding the development of new energy sectors, including solar technology and photovoltaic advancements.
Gao Jifan emphasized that the government should foster a supportive environment for innovation and market development within the new energy sector. He highlighted the importance of risk management, especially during periods of rapid growth, and stressed that sustainability must be at the core of any business strategy.
He noted that although Suntech has entered restructuring, the broader photovoltaic industry remains globally competitive. He reassured that the challenges faced by Suntech do not reflect the entire industry’s health. Gao also pointed out that overcapacity in the PV sector is primarily due to an excessive number of companies entering the market, often at the expense of profitability.
Wu Guodi attributed Suntech's difficulties to aggressive expansion and weak risk control. He outlined four essential capabilities for successful business operations: risk control, market understanding, strategic decision-making, and talent identification.
Looking ahead, Gao Jifan expressed concerns about external uncertainties, such as trade protectionism from the EU, but remained optimistic about the industry’s long-term potential. He predicted that after a period of consolidation, the PV industry would become more concentrated, with top five companies capturing around two-thirds of the market.
Regarding the future of new energy, Wu Guodi suggested that global new energy could reach 15-20% of total energy consumption within 30 years, while Gao Jifan believed it could surpass 50% by 2050, citing Germany’s progress in solar energy as a model.
Both leaders acknowledged the need for better policy support, rational investment, and international cooperation. They also discussed the importance of avoiding price wars and focusing on long-term growth.
In response to questions about the role of the government, Gao Jifan argued that the government should guide rather than micromanage, allowing enterprises to adapt to market changes. Wu Guodi praised the efforts of local governments in managing Suntech’s restructuring and called for continued support for the industry.
They also addressed the issue of grid integration, emphasizing the need for collaboration between local governments and power companies to ensure efficient electricity distribution.
Finally, both leaders reiterated their commitment to environmental responsibility, highlighting the long-term benefits of renewable energy for sustainable development and climate change mitigation.Capsule Elevator,Scenic Passenger Lift Elevator,Luxurious Capsule Elevator,Glass Capsule Elevator
