In recent years, China’s new energy industry has faced both internal and external challenges. European and American countries have raised concerns about subsidies provided to domestic new energy firms, prompting calls for policy adjustments. According to Sun Wei, Deputy Inspector of the Climate Change Department at the National Development and Reform Commission, future energy conservation and emission reduction efforts will shift from encouraging low-carbon energy to penalizing high-carbon activities.
Sun noted that while subsidies have driven growth, they have also led to trade disputes and financial strain. Instead, long-term policies like tax reforms and structural adjustments are seen as more sustainable approaches to support the transition to a low-carbon economy.
